Day 15: Santa’s Milk and Cookies

We always leave a sweet little treat for Santa on Christmas Eve.  We leave the traditional milk and cookies, and often a carrot for Rudolph. I guess the other eight reindeer go hungry. 🙁   This is a part of our Christmas tradition, so lets include it in the Christmas scrapbook!

Photo Ideas:

  • The milk and cookies
  • Your child leaving the treat for Santa
  • Be sure to include your Christmas tree or fireplace in the background
  • Your child checking on Santa’s treat plate the next morning

Journaling Ideas:

  • What kind of treat do you leave for Santa?  Are the cookies homemade?
  • Do you leave a note? What does it say?
  • Is your child excited about leaving the treats?
  • Does your child check the next day to see if Santa ate his cookies?
  • Do you have memories of leaving treats for Santa when you were a child?

Are you planning to include Santa’s milk and cookies on your scrapbook pages? What kind of cookies do you leave for the jolly old man?

Day 14: Stockings

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. Yes, today we are going to add our stockings to our Christmas scrapbook.

Photo Ideas:

  • Each family member with their stocking
  • Family members hanging up their stocking
  • Stockings hung by the fire with care, or in their alternate location
  • An ‘close-up’ photo of the stockings, with the tree in the background
  • If there’s a baby in the house you can put the baby IN the stocking (Safety first: Lay it on the couch don’t hang it up!)

Alternate Stocking locations… for lack of a fireplace:

  • A bannister
  • On hooks, or ribbon on the wall
  • On a bookcase
  • On a windowsill
  • On the back of the couch
  • On a hat rack
  • The edge of a sofa table
  • On a coat rack
  • On a ladder

Journaling Ideas:

  • Pull some journaling from the Night Before Christmas, or a title?
  • Where did your stocking come from?
  • Childhood memories?
  • Do you still use the same stocking you did as a kid? Do your parents still set one up for you?

My new house has a fireplace and I’m really excited that I can hang stockings by the fire. Where do you hang your stockings? Share in the comments!

If you are like me you have a couple of Christmas decorations that are super-special! Perhaps it’s a family heirloom, or you received it as a gift, or maybe you just LOVE it! Is it a nativity scene, a sprig of mistletoe, a music box nutcracker or a handmade decoration? Have you included it in your scrapbook?

Photo Ideas:

  • Photo of your special decoration
  • Photo of the the decoration with the person who gave it to you
  • Photo of you with the decoration
  • Photo of the place of honour in your home where it is displayed
  • Photo of it being set up while you are decorating

Journaling Ideas:

  • Why is this decoration so special to you?
  • Tell about how you came to have this decoration
  •  What is the background of this decoration
  • Is this an heirloom… or WILL it be?
  • If an ornament is handmade who made it? Can you share that on your page?

I have a few decorations that are very special to me.  Ornaments my kids made in playschool, something from my grandmother. A decoration from our favourite travel destinations.  I am going to include all of these in my Christmas scrapbook this year. How are you including your favourite ornaments?

Day 12: Christmas Tree

It’s time to talk about one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas, the Christmas tree. It’s common to see a Christmas tree in the background of your Christmas photos, but have you ever made it the focus of your page?  Here’s a few ideas for Capturing the Magic of your Christmas Tree.

Photo Ideas:

  • Hunting for/Choosing your tree/Or setting up a ‘faux’ tree
  • Decorating the tree, hanging ornaments, garland and lights, and especially putting on the tree topper.
  • The fully decorated tree
  • Individual close-up photos of special ornaments on your tree.

Journaling Ideas:

  • Get inspired by a song… like “O Christmas Tree”, this be be a great title, or use the lyrics as decorative poetry on your page.
  • Describe the search for the perfect tree, whether you cut your own, or shop for one. How do you choose just the right one?
  • Tell the story of your ornaments. Do you have special ones that represent something? Or are from someone special? Or that you received as a gift?
  • Discuss your tree topper. Is it a star, angel, or something else? How long have you had it? Can you imagine NOT having it? Who has the honour of putting it on the tree?
  • Is there a special tree that you remember from your childhood? Why was it so special?
  • Do you remember certain ornaments from when you were a kid? Were you always trying to be the person who put ‘that’ special ornament on the tree?

Although the Christmas tree if often a supporting feature in our Christmas pages, are you planning to let it ‘steal the show’ this year? Do you have so many ideas you might need to do more than ONE page? What kind of Christmas tree do you have? Real, fake, pine, spruce, fir, pre-lit… share in the comments!
