Every gal should have one. A friend you can laugh so hard with tears pour from your eyes and you start to choke and snort.
Okay, you might want to leave out the snorting.
Luckily my friend Wendy won’t judge if I happen to snort a bit, so I’m fine. 😉
Wendy and I laugh, drink wine and scrapbook together. Often all three at the same time… aren’t we talented?
How Do I Rescue this Photo?
I had this adorable photo of the two of us from an event we’d attended last year. It was taken with a cell phone, in a fairly dark room. The colour was not awesome. The photo is not great resolution, it’s grainy, very grainy.
What do you do when that’s all you’ve got?
I decided to see if black and white would rescue the photo. It was a big improvement. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better. It allows you to see our faces and the first thing you notice is how the camera has caught Wendy in the middle of laughing, that’s awesome!

Now that the photo was handled I realized that by making the photo black and white it really opened up the doors for my scrapbooking options too!
I could use any colour palette! I didn’t have to worry about matching anything to my photo. EASY!
Scrapbooking Steps
I found some gorgeous paper and printed vellum from Webster’s Pages to use.
I arranged the vellum paper in layers and created a focal area for my photo.
I die cut a frame for the photo, so it looks like a Polaroid. (I actually used a die cut machine… yay me!)
I gessoed the background. I thought I’d write on the background. Later I changed my mind. Oh well. It just made part of the background a bit softer.
I added strips of washi tape.
I found some cute letters that I’d NEVER used before… they were finally perfect for this project!
I grabbed random embellishments from beside my desk. Sequins, die cuts and the little box for the journaling.
I finished by dropping Heidi Color Shine in gold on the page. Heads up: it took a while to dry on the gesso. I also rubbed a bit on some of the die cuts.
Voila! This scrapbook layout went together very quickly and I have a lovely page to celebrate my friendship. Now… where’s the wine?
After a nearly a month without scrapbooking it was time to get back to it!
I loved the kits from Gossamer Blue this month and my layouts came together easily.
First up the traditional 12×12 layout using the Gossamer Blue June Scrapbooking Kit.

I started by showing the end of school photos I had of my sons. I had very nice pics… and then I had this one. It was obvious which one needed to be used! My older son was making fun of my younger son… Joe was graduating and won’t have to go back in the fall, while Ryan will.
I considered a couple of options for the background. I liked the idea of doing half and half and almost chose a different paper. After getting some feedback from the live audience I knew that the green and yellow together were the right choice.
I went on a quick hunt for Thickers and loved these ones. They seemed perfect for a page about teenagers. I added the Na na na na boo boo with Teresa Collins sticker letters. I’ve used these a million time and they are awesome!
The lower right embellishment cluster has chipboard stickers, rubber embellishments, puffy stickers and enamel dots. I used scor tape to hold the rubber embellishments, and one has a mini staple too.
I also stamped alongside the photo.
I drew the lines using my ruler and added my journaling. I like to repeat the title in the journaling, I think it ties it all together.
Using a kit is a great way to speed up your scrapbooking process. You don’t have to go looking for supplies as everything matches and works well together. The designers that design the kits for Gossamer Blue are great at making sure all of the colour tones and patterns are great for mixing and matching too!
After creating the 12×12 layout I moved on to the pocket page using the Gossamer Blue June Life Pages Kit.

12×12 Page:
The photo was printed 6×8. I liked how the the oranges and greens in the paper picked up different elements from the photo than I expected to use. (I thought I’d be using purple and blue on this page!)
The little cardboard circle had a saying on it that just didn’t work for this page. I covered it up with the banner and it was so cute!
A handy reminder from Carrie had me switching the orange and green mattes, so the green wasn’t right next to my son’s green shirt. That looked much better!

This layout was inspired by one of my all-time favourite movies, the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder. I’m participating in the layout at day challenge, LOAD517 Legends of Hollywood.
In Willy Wonka when the characters first enter the chocolate room, with candy everywhere and the amazing chocolate river, the expression on the actor’s faces is real. The director wouldn’t allow them to see the set until that moment so their genuine reactions could be captured. They gaze around the space in awe and wonder, it’s a truly magical moment.
The prompt: What moment in your life left you in awe and wonder? Where do you find awe and wonder in your daily life? It might be a big moment or a small one, let’s honour it today.
