Scrapbook Live June 2018

I don’t think I make enough layouts about my Dad. This Father’s Day I almost forgot to even take a photo with him!

I was remedying that problem today during Scrapbook Live! It’s an online scrapbook crop I host once a month.

I love getting together with friends to scrapbook. I made progress in completing more pages about my Dad today with my 12×12 layout, featuring me and my Dad. My pocket page features some of the highlights of June so far.

I use a kit of scrapbook supplies from The Wild Hare Kits. These kits are custom curated. You fill out a style profile and your kit will contain items that reflect your scrappy style.

I get the Deluxe kit so there’s a ton of scrappy goodness for me to play with! The owner of The Wild Hare Kits also donates a Deluxe kit to give away during the live event… YAY!!!

Here are the layouts that I created…

12×12 Layout

The 12×12 layout I created today features a 6×8 photo of the two of us together on Father’s Day. It’s really not the world’s greatest photo. To compensate for that I made it black and white, to remove some of the distractions and this gives me the freedom to work with any colours of papers or embellishments.

Pocket Page Spread Left

Once again I printed WAY TOO MANY photos to fit on a double page spread. Thankfully I came up with two solutions.

  1. I’ll add extra photos to this page using Flip Flaps from Close to My Heart.
  2. I’ll create a smaller insert that goes between the two main June pages… is creating an extra page cheating… oh well! Lol! 😉

Scrapbook Live April 2018

Once a month I host a live online scrapbook crop… Scrapbook Live! I love getting together with friends to scrapbook.

I use a kit of scrapbook supplies from The Wild Hare Kits. These kits are custom curated. You fill out a style profile and your kit will contain items that reflect your scrappy style.

The kit this month was one of my very favourites so far! I’m pretty sure I was literally drooling over the gorgeous Heidi Swapp paper! (from the Hawthorne collection)

12×12 Layout

I used a large photo of me and my husband for my 12×12 layout today. It’s not really a glamorous photo, but I love it anyway, so I made it big. I love working with big photos!

I had talked about adding stitching to this layout during the live event, but I decided I really should do it, so I added it after when I was doing my journaling.

I love the texture and dimension that the acrylic pieces add!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1

I’m excited to be the guest designer for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge for the month of June.

I shared all about my kit in this post HERE.

For the next challenge it was suggested to create a layout inspired by the fabulous bird paper in the inspiration kit (the May 2018 Hip Kit Club Kit).

That bird paper is adorable!

The Challenge

The theme would be, “A little birdie told me…”

At first I was a bit stumped. My counterfeit kit didn’t have the gorgeous bird paper, but I had a look to see what I might use instead.

My Counterfeit Kit!

One of my sticker sheets had an adorable little bird! Yay!

The bird sticker was perfect for this!

I also really loved the chipboard Thicker words and thought they might be a good choice.

The Story

I realized I had a perfect story to for this prompt. Ryan’s coach had given me a head’s up that he’d be recognized at his swim club year end awards night. (Thanks Coach!)

Ryan received the top male swimmer of the year award and Coach Ryan (yes, my son is Ryan and his coach is Ryan too) had very thoughtfully bought him a University sweatshirt as he’s going off to University in the fall.

I was unable to attend the night, so my husband went in my place. Little did he know that he’d literally be stepping into my shoes… or in this case, my new t-shirt, courtesy of the team!

I had many great options for papers in my counterfeit kit.

The papers in my counterfeit kit.

I liked the big circles, teal dot and black dot from (Simple Stories Carpe Diem), and the mellow yellow Double Dot paper (from Bo Bunny).

I pulled stickers from two of my partially used sticker sheets. I loved that they had some gold foil details.

The embellishments in my counterfeit kit.

I also added some of the hearts from the Thickers and some enamel hearts.

I love how the layout came together so easily with my kit! I thought it was great that my kit contained the perfect shade of yellow to play up the yellow lettering on the shirts.

The “a little birdie told me” prompt was such a fun idea as it gave me a great way to introduce my journaling for this story.

I can’t wait to see what else I can create with my kit!

Have you ever put together your own kit? How did you bring everything together? Were you inspired by another kit, or did you have a theme? How did it work out for you?

Happy scrapping!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge

Have you heard of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge?

I was so excited because my friend Lisa asked me to play along with the Counterfeit Kit crew as a guest designer for the month of June.

I’d be delighted! 🙂

THE CHALLENGE

Use an inspiration kit to recreate the feel/vibe of the kit using your own supplies! Create a ‘counterfeit kit’ to use when creating layouts during the month of June.

INSPIRATION KIT

For inspiration we’ll be using the May 2018 Hip Kit Club scrapbooking kit.

One look at this kit and I was in love! I could happily create beautiful layouts with those supplies, but my challenge was to recreate this kit using supplies in my stash.

Considering the size of my stash… that shouldn’t be a problem.

Okay… FINDING things might be the problem… but I knew I’d HAVE some great things!

MY COUNTERFEIT KIT

Here’s my interpretation of the kit, after raiding my stash.

COOL TIP>>> I actually pulled apart (raided!) several old kits. This was perfect because I wasn’t inspired by the older kits as they were, but combining the papers in this new way made me realize what treasures I had just lying there!

I used these categories as inspired by the Hip Kit.

  • Fun prints (as inspired by the glasses paper and the bird paper) I found clouds, colourful dots, banners and a fun paper that I had inked.
  • Peach and soft pinks. These will be great as a a neutral for layering.
  • Teal patterns. The sample kit had both soft teals, and some that were a bit bolder, so I found both.
  • Black and white. Although the inspiration kit only had one sheet of black and white I’m pretty sure I’ll need a bit more!
  • Yellows. I love combining yellow, teal and pink and can’t wait to play with this!
  • Bright pinks. These will add a great pop of colour!
  • White/lined patterns great for journaling. I’ll probably add as much cardstock as needed without counting it as part of my kit. 😉

Here are the embellishments and alphas I chose.

I started with a fun and funky alpha (in the small packaging) that I’ve had in my stash for ages and never used.

I knew I’d need more than one alpha so I pulled out a few, a yellow, a teal, a pink and a gold glitter.

For embellishments I found several packs of stickers that fit the colours and had a lot of life in them. You’ll see on the sheets that I’ve used some of the stickers, but overall there’s still a lot to choose from. I also found a couple packs of die cuts that are lovely and should be good for embellishment clusters!

To my kit I added enamel dots, stars, hearts and arrows, and a sheet of puffy stickers. (The basics!)

I also found some wood grain words and some wood veneer words for a touch of natural.

Finally, I added the 2×2 squares from Paige Evan’s Pick Me Up collection, as they are new and I’m itching to see what I can do with them!

I can’t wait to get scrapping with this kit! You can play along too. Pop over to Counterfeit Kit Challenge for more details, or hop along to Cindy’s blog for her kit reveal!

Hop along the entire list to see how each person put their counterfeit kit together!
