Hello Art Journaling

"Hello" the art journal page I created from the tutorial by Mystic Tulip Mixed Media

You know when you see something and it speaks to your soul? That happened to me the other day when I fell in LOVE with an art journaling tutorial on Facebook. A friend posted a link to a post on the Mystic Tulip Mixed Media Facebook page. Find them (and Like them) on Facebook HERE.

Betty Franks Krause is a self-taught mixed media artist with a passion for color, texture and sharing what she creates. She shared a photo tutorial called Believe and when I saw it I was in awe. The colours, the details, all of it is amazing! The link to the tutorial is HERE.

Please, please go check out the full tutorial. As a sneak peek Betty has agreed to allow me to tease you with a couple tutorial photos!

Each step of the tutorial features a photo with directions and handy tips!

This is the finished product!

Amazing!

I decided that it would improve my skills the most to follow the tutorial step by step, as well as I could. When I didn’t have access to certain materials I substituted something similar.

Here’s what I learned while creating this artwork:

  • Sometimes you don’t end up with the look you are expecting, that’s okay, often the results are even better.
  • Paint drops are unpredictable and that’s okay!  It’s a huge opportunity to embrace whatever happens.
  • I often don’t use enough layers in my projects. Part of why I love the “Believe” project is for the multitude of details and layers. I should do more layers more often!

I’m so pleased with this! It was messy, some parts didn’t work out right as planned and it all turned out beautifully. It’s a great thing to get messy and to try something new!

Don’t forget you can see the full photo tutorial on Facebook HERE. You can also snag your own piece of Betty’s work from her shop at etsy HERE. Thank you Betty for inspiring me to get creative with my art journaling!
